Saint Wenceslaus Catholic School Office Update

From the Office of the Principal:

Dear Parents, Grandparents, and Friends of SWS;

Next week, we will hold our open house registration evening for our Little Saints Preschool. In February, we offer a night for incoming kindergarten students. Spreading the word about our school falls on everyone in our community. Word of Mouth Marketing is the best source to tell people about our programs.

Our school is an exceptional place. Our staff cares so deeply about the success of our students and works so hard to instill good morals, values, and traditional teachings of our faith. They are models for our students, growing in faith themselves as they teach within our building. Christ is at the center and heart of our existence.

We thrive due to the dedication of our staff and the commitment of our school parents, friends, and supporters. We are thankful to be a part of a community where faith is essential and instilling faith into our children is our way of daily operation. Bringing more souls close to God is important.

Two foundations are helping us with scholarships at this point, along with many individual supporters/donors. Preschool parents can apply for the Schulze Family Foundation preschool scholarship. Financial needs-based scholarships are also available from the Aim Higher Foundation for the K-8 families. Applications are due soon.

I am sure everyone knows at least one child who would love to be a part of our school. Pass the word!

Kim Doyle, Principal

Psalm 86:11
Teach me your ways, O LORD, that I may live according to your truth! Grant me purity of heart so that I may honor you.

Starry Night requests to our school families
In an effort to streamline and make it easy on our school families, we have changed how we are doing our “class baskets” this year.

We ask you to donate $5-$10 per child. Your child’s teacher will then take the money and purchase an item or multiple items for our silent auction. That’s it! Just donate the $$ asap so the class can pick out an item.  Again. $5-$10 per child – please donate according to your family’s ability.

Cocktail Basket donations
Every year these are everyone’s favorites. We need many different kinds of adult beverages to make our special baskets. We ask you to raid your home bar and give us an unopened bottle or two.  Or please head to the local liquor store.  We need all items no later than Feb 15. Drop off in the school office. DO NOT send these with the kids. For your convienence, we will have two days where you can drive by and drop off in the parking lot. Wednesday January 24th and Wednesday January 31st. Someone from our committee will be there at drop off and pick up time to take your stash!

Click here for our beverage signup to tell us what you can bring

We need lots and lots of wine for our wine pull. Consider buying a case of wine as your donation.

We are looking for sponsors, table purchasers, item donors, cash donors, and lots and lots of guests!

Plan to attend with friends, neighbors, relatives, or alone.

Attend Mass at St. Wenceslaus on January 28
We are starting our Catholic Schools Week with Mass and pancakes and want every school family, including preschool and other faith groups, to attend.

You have two options: 8:30 and 10:30 AM
* We need grades K and 1 students to help be greeters at the doors of the church.
* We need students in grades 2 and 3 to sing at the 8:30 Mass.
* We need the Music Studios students to sing at the 10:30 Mass.

Pancakes afterward in the church basements – Free-will offering

Family poster
Please complete and turn in your family poster by Friday this week..
We will be hanging these up in our hallway for Catholic School Week.
This is a simple 8.5×11 piece of paper that was in your child’s backpack last week. Paste a family photo on it and color it along with answering two questions at the bottom of the form.

If you lost yours – please get one from the school office.

Catholic Schools Week is coming!
This is a fun week at the end of January where our school, along with all Catholic Schools in the Nation, celebrate with joyful activities that bring recognition to our unique mission of our faith-based education.

* We start out with Mass and then a pancake breakfast on Sunday morning. – January 28
* Grades 6-8 will join 7,000 other Catholic school students of the Archdiocese for Mass on Monday, January 29.
* There will be a ski trip for grades 5-8 – Tuesday, January 30.
* Wednesday of that week, we will have Special guests come to Mass, followed by bingo. (Special guests can be any person who is out of high school that is special to your child. Children can invite more than one guest if they desire) – January 31.
* We will have a K-8 rollerskating trip to Skateville – parents are welcome to attend. February 2.

* There will be a special dress-up each day.
More information on these and all activities will come within the next two weeks.

Pancake Breakfast helpers are needed
To kick off the week of celebration for Catholic schools, we hold a pancake breakfast in our cafeteria for all school families and parish members.

Plan to attend with your family on Sunday, January 28 – 8:00-12:00.

We need a few pancake makers, coffee servers, and table cleaners.

Please email Kim if you can be added to the list.
Students in grades 5-8 can earn service hours – but we especially need adults to do the main jobs.

This event is sponsored by our local Knights of Columbus.

All school families will be asked to attend the Masses this Sunday, and some of our students will be leading us in the choir.

Report Cards are coming home.

The first semester ended last Friday. The report cards are coming home soon.

The lower grade levels use standards to grade on a 1 to 4 scale, with 2 being a great average score for a child at this time of year as it shows progress.

The upper grades use traditional letter grades of A, B, C, D, and F.  Most students will receive the grades of A, B, and C. These are all great grades. Keep in mind that our teachers work so hard to help every child succeed with extra help sessions and help getting late work done. If your child receives a D or an F, then they have put in no/little effort and have chosen to get this grade.  We teach our students to be independent learners who strive to succeed.
