Saint Wenceslaus Catholic School Office Update

From the Office of Principal:

Dear Parents, Grandparents, and Friends of SWS;

It was amazing to see our entire school community together on Saturday for our marathon. There was so much spirit and energy. The smiles on the faces of the kids and seeing them run their hearts out with such drive and effort tells a great story of our school. We have happy and confident students who have compassion to accomplish their goals.

SWS is a place for parents to connect too. We are a Christ-centered community where families can develop relationships with each other. Raising children with friends who share similar paths is a great way to have support and fun with parenting.

Our staff and many supporters believe in this great mission and ministry. We see the dedication of our staff who do so much outside of their normal teaching duties. We see grandparents, friends, parishioners, and community members who help the school with or without having their child in the school.  We are blessed with so many committed people.

You have to believe that this spirit just does not happen automatically. Our SWS spirit is real. It is authentic. It is blessed from above and God has His hands on SWS!

May God Bless us all.
Kim

NWEA Testing in K-8 this week

Testing takes place this week for kindergarten through 8th grade:

Math on Tuesday at 8:00 am
Reading on Wednesday at 9:00 am (after Mass)
Language on Thursday at 8:00 am

Please have your kids to school on time. Those students who are absent at testing time may not be able to make up the session thus not receiving the full results.

Please have your child rested and make sure they have breakfast so that their brains are in full gear for the testing sessions.

The NWEA tests are meant for teachers to learn what specific strengths and weaknesses each child has in their classroom and to build their curriculum based on this knowledge.

NWEA tests are given in the fall to set a base, in the winter to check on progress, and in the spring to verify that goals have been met.

Parents will receive the results at the fall conferences on November 3 and 4. (watch for conference sign up to come soon)

Require events for parents to help contribute to goal:
1. Marathon – $150 per child

3. Golf Tournament
4. Pot-o-Gold (however, we would like each family to buy or sell at least one $100 ticket)

Toddler Tuesdays
Every Tuesday (On days when school is in session)

8:00 AM -10:00 AM

Come when you can and bring your friends and neighbors who also have toddlers- ages 1-4/5. Kids can run around in the gym.  Our PE teacher, Mrs. Turner, will be there too and provide some of the school equipment for even more fun.

Park in the school parking lot and enter through the main doors near the gym. Someone will be there to let you in. If the door is locked, just want in the lobby. We will find you!

Assembly –  Magic Show and Professional Vikings Football Player

Something fun for the kids.
Our School Parent Association will sponsor an afternoon of fun for the kids with a magic show then followed by an inspirational speaker, Mark Mallaney, former Vikings Player.

Tuesday, October 18 at 12:45.
Parents are welcome to attend.

Volunteers are welcome!
We welcome all volunteers to our school after more than 2 years of not having school guests due to Covid.

If your child’s teacher reaches out for helpers, you need to make sure that you are fully in compliance with our school safety standards. The safety program is called Virtus. This is an online requirement that includes a background check and video training – the total process takes about 1.5 hours to complete.

Contact the school for more information if you will be regularly serving as a school volunteer.

Come for lunch!
Parents are welcome to come to school for lunch. Please call ahead to get on the lunch count. Stop by the school office upon arrival. Adult lunch cost is $5.

7th/8th grade trip to Washington DC
Each year a group from our school goes on a trip to Washington DC. This is an amazing trip that is jam-packed with opportunities to see many amazing places.

Parents and students will be going on the trip this year from October 19 to October 22. If you have younger children, this is a great trip to plan to take with your child when they reach the 7th or 8th grade level.
