Saint Wenceslaus Catholic School Weekly Office Update

From the Office of Principal:

This week we start our fall testing. Your children in grades K-8 will be taking the NWEA tests. These tests give us a baseline to begin the school year placing students at various levels in many different strands across the curriculum.

Testing at this time will help teachers plan their strategies to reach all of the children viewing them where they are at. Teachers can then plan and build goals for each student to grow.

We will also take winter tests in February and end of year tests in spring. On the NWEA’s we want to see growth in reading and math skills (Also in writing skills for grades 3-8). Some students will grow much over the year as they get those “ah-ha” moments and things begin to click. Other students will be on a steady course of growth making consistent steps right at their grade level. This helps us know which students to challenge more and which students to support to a greater degree.

Since ALL students now have a 1:1 device in our school  ( iPad or laptop computer) to use in the classrooms, testing should be less disruptive to the school day. Testing will take less than 1 hour for each of the reading, math and writing skills. These tests will be given over the next two weeks.

Dozinky Day Parade Participation – Saturday, September 22
We invite everyone to ride or walk along with the SWS Float for the Dozinky Parade. We would like to see our school (Preschool-Grade 8) out in the community with strong numbers. We would like to show our “RED”. Parents wear the free t-shirt that we gave you last year or in August. Kids wear any red shirt (SWS spirit wear shirt, uniform shirt, or another red t-shirt). We have some shirts (limited sizes) for sale for $15 in the office. Our unit number is #45. Please meet at the lineup site beginning at 11:30 for a 12: 00-noon start. Bring an empty ice cream bucket for candy.

Click here for a simple form sign up if you can be in the parade with SWS.

Parade Donations wanted:
A big bag of candy or two would be an awesome donation so kids have plenty to toss out while riding the float or walking along.

Mass of the Holy Spirit

It is a very special treat for our school to participate this year in the Mass of the Holy Spirit. This Mass will be at the US BANK Stadium. We will be in attendance with 14,000 students from 79 Catholic Schools in grades 4-8. We will celebrate with the Archbishop and with hundreds of our priests.  This Mass is sponsored by the Catholic School Center of Excellence. The date is Wednesday, October 10.  This is a private event and only preapproved teacher and adults who are fully Virtus trained and have background checks will be allowed to attend.

Watch for the permission slips from the 4th – 8th-grade students to attend.

Winter Clothing Collection
For the students who are attending the Mass of the Holy Spirit at US Bank Stadium in grades 4-8: We are asked to donate a new or gently used winter coat, snow pants, or other winter item when we come to Mass. There will be 14,000 students in attendance and the Catholic School Center of Excellence would like to collect 14,000 winter items.

Home/School Members wanted:
We are looking for a few more parents. The jobs are easy, you will meet other parents, and it is fun!  The group meets monthly but we are so flexible and open to any help you can give us. Please contact Kim if you are willing to be a part of our Home and School Association.
We need about 4-5 more parents to join. Join with a friend!
