Saint Wenceslaus Catholic School Office Update
From the Office of Principal:
Dear Parents, Grandparents, and Friends of SWS;
We are getting into the swing of “all things” associated with the school once again. This week we have important meetings for teachers and parents to connect. We also have the Dozinky parade next weekend where we connect with our community. Our marathon is in full swing as we connect with donors and friends of our families.
SWS is dependent on good connections. As a Catholic school, we want to be seen as a place where people can bond in many ways. We want to continue to endorse a family environment where everyone feels a part and shares in the success of helping the school run smoothly. We not only welcome but encourage participation in the school as much as possible in appropriate ways.
One goal this year is to rebuild our sense of “family” which has been reduced in many ways due to Covid. We will therefore, be reintroducing our students to cross-grade family groups and buddy pairings. We are inviting parents to join in live and virtual meetings. We are reaching out to newer families to get involved in our events, committees and fundraisers. We will be inviting adults into our school once we know that it is safer to do so considering the virus spread.
Our ultimate connection is that which we share with each other in God, the creator and father of us all. We join daily in prayer with our students and offer all families a chance to join us for Mass. Please continue to pray each day for the school, the staff, and especially the students.

Dozinky Parade – This Saturday, September 18
Wanted Preschool to Grade 8 students and as many parents as possible!
Line up starts at 11:00 – please be at our float no later than 11:45. Parade starts at noon. WE ARE #49 – CLICK FOR LINE UP LOCATION,
Everyone wear a bright red school t-shirt or uniform shirt or other bright red shirt! (If you recently ordered one – these will be sent home this week)
Donations of large bags of candy are welcome! Bring it to the parade.
Every person also needs a bucket for candy distributing.
Little ones can ride on float. Strollers are welcome.
PARENTS ARE REQUIRED WITH PRESCHOOL – GRADE 2 KIDS
The parade ends by the Flip Side Bar. Meet your child in the back parking lot where they will get off the float – or make other arrangements for your older kids.
Free/reduced lunch application
See if you finacially meet the qualifications by clicking here.
Our school received thousands of dollars last year because of these forms.
All lunch is free this year due to a grant from the USDA. We still need as many of the forms filled out as possible to get other financial supports.
Masks on busses
If your student rides the bus – please send a mask or have them keep one in their backpack. We are giving too many masks out each day for bus riders!
Also we notice the minute 99% of the kids sit down on the bus they remove their mask. We have no control over this behavior as we see the bus drive away so we ask you to please talk to your own child about this expectation.
Birthday treats
Birthday treats must be individually sealed and each individually sealed item is further sealed inside of a larger box or bag. – Example box of fruit snacks that is sealed and inside the box are 12 sealed packets. This is so teachers can easily handle treats and serve with sanitized hands. Students may not distribute snacks.
No boxes of bakery donuts, cookies, or cupcakes, please.
We’re Back: Now What?
Join Dr. Julene Nolan – free webinar sessions each month exclusive for Catholic school parents.

Parenting during the pandemic, conflict in our communities, going back to school, and the uncertainty that has plagued us over the last 18 months have made our jobs as parents even more difficult. Many of us are worried about how to move forward as we once again enter a school year that will likely be influenced by the pandemic. In this session we will bring it back to the basics of sound, practical parenting. What to attend to, what to let slide, how to protect our child’s mental health without “snowplowing” away the experiences they need to become strong and resilient.

What is the difference for instruction and homework?
Covid illness or forced quarantine: The school will follow one of the plans outlined in our safety plan for instructions and homework.
Child ill with other aliment: Homework given upon return to school due one day late for each day ill.
Vacation: No work given ahead of time unless the teacher initiates. Work is given upon return and due one day for each school day gone, no distance learning provided. Parents – please do not ask or expect a teacher to provide work to your child for vacation periods. This is excessive work for the teacher in most cases.
SWS Parent Association
All parents are welcome to be a part of the School Parent Association!
This group works to help make our school a great place by bringing joy to the staff and the students with programs, incentives, and recognitions. The group is also there to help where needed throughout the school year.
We meet monthly. This is a great way to meet new people and to become an involved member of our school community. We would LOVE to have you join us.

Wanted: Person with a truck to pull trailer
We need a new parent or two to commit to driving the empty pop cans to Mankato Recycling Center. This takes place once each month or two.
Clarence and Joannie Tupy have been doing this task for many years and want to pass on the information for the next generation to collect and recycle the cans. A very special thanks to Clarence and Joannie!
Our school has a pop can recycling trailer in the back parking lot. We make money for the school with the project and it’s great for the environment.
Wanted: Fleece cutting Moms or Dads!
The school was given a room full of fleece as a donation. We want to turn this fleece into blankets to give to the elderly and poor this winter.
Kim is organizing parents who are able to spend time cutting fleece so the children can tie it. We want each child to make a blanket so we will be cutting 200 plus fleece blankets getting them ready for the next step.
Ideally parents can work in pairs or teams to lay out the fleece and cut it. You can choose the best time to work each week – but we know that on Friday AM the gym will be open and we can set up working tables.
Contact Kim if you are able to cut fleece. State the best time or day for you to come in and she will set up teams of fleeece cutters! All you need to bring is a sharp sissors to cut fabric.

School Mass – Most Wednesday’s at 8:00 AM
We welcome all school parents to join us for our weekly liturgical celebrations. Students will sit with their classmates and teachers. Parents are welcome to take a spot behind the students towards the back of the church.
Please do not sit up front or intermix with the students – even if your child is doing a reading or singing. The classes have assigned spots.
Catholics that have previously received communion in the celebration/sacrament of First Communion can receive Holy Communion during the Mass.
All younger students and anyone non-Catholic is welcome to approach the front at the distribution of Communion and receive a blessing – To do this, place your arms in a cross on your chest. This will indicate to the minister that you will get a blessing.

Saintly Service
This year St. Wenceslaus School staff members are excited to incorporate the example of seven saints into the ways we interact with students, parents, and each other – through Saintly Service: Wisdom for Growing Catholic Community. This is philosophy that our school already embraces, but one that we want to be especially intentional about welcoming and embracing others. We are looking for a great year of building community!
Thanks to the Catholic School Center of Excellence, we’re uniting with other Catholic schools and putting words and faces to our traditions and practices by using the following saints and their charisms as guiding examples in our relationship-building:
St. Benedict – Offer incredible hospitality
St. Teresa of Calcutta – Be assertively friendly
St. Ignatius – Assume positive intent
St. Therese of Lisieux – Pay attention to the little things
St. John XXIII – Foster a culture of joy
St. Joan of Arc – Take action and initiative
St. Francis – Be the change you wish to see
