Saint Wenceslaus Catholic School Office Update

From the Office of Principal:

Dear Parents, Grandparents, and Friends of SWS,

THANK YOU FISH FRY VOLUNTEERS!
YOU ARE SO AWESOME!

It was a wonderful night and it could not have been possible without the many people who physically were there, running to feed more than 1300 people. The Fish Fry Committee was fantastic, the other adult helpers jumped right in, and the student helpers made it truly a fun school event. One thing we know for sure – you all worked so hard for the school.  We are thankful.

March Conferences this week
March 10 – 3:00 – 5:00 and 6:00 – 8:00
March 12 – 12:00 – 5:00 and 6:00 – 8:00 – no school for the students on this day.

COVID-19 Preparation (Coronavirus)
While the risk is still low, all schools are preparing for the COVID-19 Virus. SWS falls under the directives of the New Prague Area School’s Health Department standards and the MN Dept. of Health. You can read more about this virus at CDC.gov.

A. Here at SWS, we are following these practices as outlined by the Department of Health:

The most important thing that individuals can do is to practice common sense prevention measures.
• Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds
• Cover your coughs and sneezes with a tissue or your sleeve not in your hands
• Avoid touching your face, eyes, nose and mouth • Avoid close contact with people who are sick
• Stay home from school, work and activities if you are sick
• Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces

B. We are stressing the importance of keeping hands and objects clean in school with the children.

C. We have supplied each teacher with cleaning supplies – Soup, Clorox Wipes, Hand Sanitizer and have cleaning solutions and bleach products locked up in the closets that are used by custodial staff. New hand sanitizer dispensers will be mounted in each clasroom ( except for the preschool area) within the next two week.

D. We have a plan in place for Blended Learning should the school need to close due to illness. Teachers would e-mail you with academic assignments for the missed days of school. Students would be expected to complete the assigned work at home and the parents would monitor it or in the case of the older students, they would continue to submit work on line as they normally do in school. The school will close according to the most current MN Department of Health directives at the time  – if the virus appears.

We ask parents to do the following:
Please keep your child home if they are sick so as to not spread germs to the other students.
Please do not send them with a fever.
Please do not give them Tylenol and send them with an underlying fever.
Please do not send them with a bad cough that is disruptive, deep, and in which they spread germs because of sputum coming up when they cough.
Please do not send them with any signs of diarrhea or upset stomach with vomiting suspicions.
Please do teach them to sneeze and couch into their sleeve or tissue.
Please do teach them to keep washing their hands – sing the ABC’s twice – to wash long enough to scrub the germs.
