Saint Wenceslaus Catholic School Office Update

From the Office of the Principal:

Dear Parents, Grandparents, and Friends of SWS;

Blessings to you this Advent season. This is a happy time for most people, especially those of us who have excited children and surrounding family, events, parties, and more. This is also one of the saddest times of the year for many people due to loss, loneliness, financial hardships, and grief. Many times these symptoms are obvious, but sometimes they may go hidden and unnoticeable.

Advent is the season of light. What does it mean to bring light to the world? You might be able to offer one small gesture that will bring great light to another person. Look at the people around you this Advent. Find those most in need of your light and support them as you can. That is the meaning of our faith.  For Jesus was born in a cold stable amongst the animals and his family was supported immediately by the common people of the village of Bethlehem. His birth brought great light to those who witnessed and all who believed from afar.

Be the Light of Jesus this Advent,

Kim Doyle
Principal

Santa Secret Shop

This is a special shopping time for the students. We will be setting up a gift shop. Kids can purchase gifts for their family members and get the gifts wrapped and labeled to go under your Christmas tree.

This will take place on December 8th and 9th.

Most gifts are between $1 and $10.

Students in K-8 will get an envelope. You can decide who they will shop for. Write the names of those people on the envelope and place a small amount of money inside the envelope. (Ex. Mom = $5, Brother = $2, Grandpa = $3) Students will learn to budget to get what they want and make hard choices in their shopping.

Preschool – We will send you an envelope to put $10.00 – Just open flat amount. Our School Mom’s will help the child pick out two gifts – one for mom and one for dad. The gifts will come home wrapped and labeled.

From the School Advisory Council
We know that families are busy and sometimes it helps to have new ideas to incorporate more of the faith into your family life.

For the Love of Family
This week’s challenge:

Give families a decorative note to post in a room they all frequent or a place where every family member turns on and off the light.
Each time people flip the light switch, ask them to look at the note and remember that God offers a glorious light that’ll never burn out

Club House during our Christmas Break

We will be closed for the rest of the break days to let our staff have some needed time off for their own families.

Toddler Tuesdays
Every Tuesday (On days when school is in session)

8:00 AM -10:00 AM – For Toddlers and their parents

Correct snow clothing for your child?

Now with the cold and snowy weather, please make sure all students have the proper clothingeven if there is no snow on the ground.

Hats, mittens/gloves, coats, snow pants, boots, and a scarf/face mask when the temperature is cold.

Preschool through grade 7 will be going outside for recess every day. (Grade 7 has study hall options, and 8th grade has extended time for math class) Recess is 20-25 minutes long.

We will go outside when the temperature is above zero. We watch the windchill, and usually go outside if the windchill is above zero in combination with the temperature.

Our playground supervisors and office staff will also make a decision on indoor/outdoor recess on a day-by-day basis, depending on the wind level on the playground and temp/windchill.

Sick?
Please be sure to tell the school the symptoms of the illness as you are calling in.  We have had many students ill in the last few weeks, and we need to report our numbers to the health department.

If your child has the flu or covid diagnosis, let us know. If they have a fever, sore throat, or cough, let us know this too. An entirely different flu might be one with vomit and diarrhea.

We appreciate your good communication with sick children.
