Saint Wenceslaus Catholic School Office Update

From the Office of the Principal:

Dear Parents, Grandparents, and Friends of SWS;

Next week, our School Parent Association will show appreciation to our school staff on behalf of all parents.  They will have fun treats and small gifts for the school staff for our official appreciation week, April 22-26.  SWS staff works so hard each year to provide an excellent education to your children. We are not only helping them become independent, confident, and capable learners, but we are also helping their souls connect to God. This takes lots of tough love, which is appreciated by most as we help you, the parents, form your child’s virtues in faith and stamina in their studies.

Our staff is so thankful for the parents who show appreciation for what our Catholic school offers and recognize our special staff. Our staff members commit to Catholic education above other options. A simple thank you note from a parent goes a long way. So, to those parents who appreciate the gift of Catholic education and have thanked a staff member this year or who will say thank you before the year is out — Our staff thanks you back!

Kim Doyle, Principal

Psalm 86:11
Teach me your ways, O LORD, that I may live according to your truth! Grant me purity of heart so that I may honor you.

Shout Out to our Preschool Program

Little Saints Preschool is an amazing place within our school. We serve children ages 3-5 in that program. Each year, it is incredible how much the children grow. They are so happy, and you can see how much their teachers love them. Therefore, they thrive.   Parents can be assured that their little ones are safe and well cared for. The age-appropriate social and academic program prepares them well for entering kindergarten. Our preschool staff is the best!

Here is a short video of our preschool program.
Please share with others. We have room in our PreK sessions for fall.

Autism Awareness Day on Thursday

Students may wear BLUE to school on Thursday, April 18, as part of our Autism Awareness Day.
No uniforms are required.

Reminder:
Per our uniform/dress code policy…
Leggings may only be worn under a skirt or dress and not alone as an approved bottom.
This applies to all grades K-8.

Parking Lot Reminders for Pick up and Drop off.

1. If your child is slower getting in or out of the car, please do not go to the pick-up line. Park in the lot and have them cross with the teacher patrol. This includes kids who do not come out of school in the first heap!  Some kids dottle. – PLEASE PARK AND DON’T DELAY THE OTHER CARS IN LINE.

2. Kids need to get in and out of cars on the school side only. Your child’s safety is at risk if they do not.

3.  Wait for the car in front of you to exit – PLEASE DO NOT TRY TO BYPASS THE LINE BY PULLING OUT. There are many near-miss accidents.

4. Be patient and kind to the other parents. We are hearing of parents who are not kind in our parking lot. Why? And what does this say about parents in a Catholic school? And what does this show all children?

5. If the pick-up or drop-off line does work for you, it is a simple fix—just park in the lot. Our dismissal process takes no longer than 5-7 minutes. You can spare that time to keep everyone safe.

If all else fails and this process doesn’t work for you, contact KIm to arrange an alternative pick-up place.

Mark your calendars with our Spring Concert times.

Thurs., May 2 – Spring Concert Day K-8
9:00 Living Rosary in the Church
10:00 – Concert in the Gym
6:30 – Concert in the Gym
Preschool will NOT participate in this concert or the Living Rosary

Accreditation Team Visit Follow-up

We enjoyed having our MNSAA team visit the school last week. They asked lots and lots of questions, and they dug deep into all of our paperwork. The team looked at every aspect of the school.

The team chairperson left us with one outstanding message on the last day. he said, ” The team found that our school clearly lives its mission as a Catholic school.” This is the greatest compliment. They also assured us that we would find no surprises in their report. We are fully aware of and have set goals for our next areas of evaluation and improvement.

We are very thankful for the team members who gave three days of their time away from school to spend with us.

Golf Tournament

The annual school golf tournament is just around the corner. You will soon receive information on becoming a sponsor or registering to participate in the tournament.

Keep Friday, June 7 free.

This tournament is appropriate for first-time golfers as well as pros. No matter your level, you’ll have a blast!

You can register as a foursome or as an individual.

Financial Assistance

If you applied for financial assistance through TADS, please know that families will be notified in early May from Kim.
Our school program is determined by the number of families who apply and the needs based on recommendations from TADS.  Financial assistance is awarded only if your family qualifies.

Some of you have qualified for the Aim Higher Scholarship. You should have received a letter from them recently.
This is different than our school financial assistance program.

Aim Higher Scholarships are actual money that comes from the Aim Higher Foundation to the school. SWS financial assistance is simply a discount to help you manage your financial commitment to the school.

We are building a Canoe!

CSCOE chose our school to participate in the Urban Wilderness program next school year. Our 7th and 8th grade students will build an actual canoe.  Urban Wilderness will be coming to our school for two weeks. Students will rotate in and out in small groups to help with the canoe building. After it is built, students will try it out on a local lake.  We are so excited! We are waiting to hear what weeks the team will be coming to our school.

Ron McBroom Project

The recipient of the “Spirit of St. Wenceslaus Award” is gifted with the choice of one special project for the school that donations can be directed to at any point throughout the year.

Ron has chosen a project to help the school purchase new Religion textbooks and supplies.  All funds designated for this project for the next year will go to make this happen.

Please share this with others who may want to gift the school at this time.

Peace of Mind School has been awarded to SWS

Beginning with the 2024-25 school year, our school will become one of the Peace of Mind Schools awards by CSCOE (Catholic School Center of Excellence). This means that our teachers will be getting extensive training and continued coaching to deal with students who need SEL. SEL stands for “Social Emotional Learning”.  Our teachers will be attending special workshops over the summer to help them learn skills and techniques. Then, in the fall, we will be assigned a counselor who will guide and coach the teachers regularly. This is a huge gift to the school that is funded by CSCOE. We are lucky to have been chosen to become a Peace of Mind School.

Calendar for next year
Please try to avoid too much time away from school for your children.
Family vacations are amazing, and everyone deserves to relax and refresh.  Please look very closely at the calendar for the next school year as you are planning.  Time away from school is not necessarily relaxing for many children, parents, or teachers. We encourage you to have your children in school as much as possible. We have less than 1/2 the days in a full year to work with your kids. Please schedule as many breaks as possible during the planned school breaks so the children are in school when school is in session. We also understand that many times, dates cannot be adjusted due to your personal work schedule.

Also, mark all of our event dates now so that you can participate fully in the life of the school.
