Saint Wenceslaus Catholic School Office Update

From the Office of the Principal:

Dear Parents, Grandparents, and Friends of SWS:

The time is upon us for our new school year to begin. I am so excited and pleased with the staff that we have with us this year in the school. It took us many days to find our new people and many prayers to secure them into their roles. What a challenge. I am so thankful that God provided just the right people for the jobs here at SWS. Last week we held our staff meetings, and all of us quickly realized that our new crew are winners! Our returning staff members are like the golden treasure of this amazing ship. They are rich and colorful in their ways and keep our school solid, stable, and filled with beautiful jewels to share with our new staff members and your children. Together, our new and returning staff will no doubt be an amazing, knowledgeable, and hard-working group.

Tomorrow is our first day of school for our K-8 students. We ask God to guide us, to watch over us, and to bless us abundantly in our journey for 2023-2024.

Kim Doyle, Principal

Psalm 86:11
Teach me your ways, O LORD, that I may live according to your truth! Grant me purity of heart so that I may honor you.

School start times:
Preschool classes start at 9:00 AM ( with extended care starting earlier for those who have pre-registered for the care.).
K-8 school start time is 7:30 sharp.  The drop-off door will be locked at 7:30. Kids who enter after 7:35 are marked tardy but will also need to go to the front door to get in.  We need to start earlier this year so that we can fit our free breakfast into the morning schedule.

Drop-off locations:
Preschool drop off and pick up are on Columbus Avenue using the “preschool doors.”
Park and get out of your car. This is a no-parking zone, but preschool drop-off is acceptable. Ring the preschool doorbell if coming for extended care.  Wait until 8:55 if coming for the preschool program and a teacher will open the door for all who arrive.
K-8 student car drop off and pick up is in the back parking lot.
Choice  #1
K-8 does a drive-by drop-off – pull your car all the way to the front of the coned area of the parking lot.  Students exit and enter cars on the school side. Cars stay in line.
DO NOT TRY TO PULL OUT IN FRONT OF THE CAR IN FRONT OF YOU. Just be patient and wait your turn to drive, and then the next set of cars will pull through as directed by our staff members.  Watch out for bus traffic and for children crossing.
Choice #2

You can also park your car in the back tier of the parking lot. Get out of your car and walk to the crossing path to help cross your child in the am or to meet your child after school.

Walking/biking to school – all of these kids need to have a note. Send your permission to walk or bike to the school office.

Let’s all be safe so that our kids stay safe at drop-off or pick-up time.

Please drop off and pick up in the back parking lot
1. Drive by, and kids jump out of the car in the drop-off zone
2. Park in the back end of the lot and walk your kids to the crosswalk (A staff member will be there with a crossing flag)

All Preschool
Park on Columbus and walk up to the preschool doors.
Ring the bell and enter the building.

Breakfast  Times

8:00 – Grades 3-4-5
8:20 – Grades 6-7-8
8:40 – Grades K-1-2

K-8 will have breakfast time for 15 minutes each day. (This eliminates snacks from home/snack time in classrooms)

Each student must take three items, with one of them being a fruit.

Sample:  Banana, Cereal, Milk

Your child can have the FREE breakfast if they take three items.

If they only want one item – then you would need to pay $.50 per item.

So… Three things are free or pay for one/two items. This is the State requirement for us to offer free breakfast and lunch.
Please encourage your kids to take all three items. (Even if they put the item in their bag to take home or eat later)

More than 3 items will cost $.50 per item.

Lunches will be served as usual, but this year there will be no fee for the basic school lunch.
Students can order an extra carton of milk for $.50
Students can order a double entree for an added $1.50

You can put money into your family lunch account to cover any added expenses.

Lunch Applications (Formerly known as the old free/reduced lunch application)

Each grade will have a 30-minute time slot.
Watch for more information to come next week on specific times.

Mark your calendar for Tuesday, September 12
Times will be in the evening between 5:00-8:00 PM

Kitchen Volunteers

We will take any time that you can give us. One day per week or one day per month- 2-3 hours per day.

This is for serving lunch and cleaning up after lunch.

Please contact our school food services director, Katie, if you can help.
