Saint Wenceslaus Catholic School Office Update

From the Office of the Principal:

Dear Parents, Grandparents, and Friends of SWS:

Coming up next Saturday, our school will hold our annual Marathon for Non-Public Education. We will join all parochial and private schools in our State of MN on this day in an effort to raise funds to operate our school. While public schools get funds from the state through your taxes, our Catholic school operates from three sources: tuition, fundraising, and donations. The marathon is one of four required fundraisers held each year. There are many other fundraising events, but these four are set into our annual budget: marathon, sweepstakes, fish fry, and pot-o-gold.

Let’s take our example from Mr. Ron McBroom, who is an amazing supporter of our school and has literally single-handedly collected more marathon pledges and donations for the school than anyone can imagine. He has been collecting marathon pledges for the last 35 years from members of the community. Ron has brought in hundreds of thousands of dollars over time.  This year, Ron’s goal is to raise $10,000.  Ron will walk the marathon route once again as he prays the Rosary, which gives him strength in his life. Thank you to Ron McBroom for his extraordinary dedication to the school and example of faith and giving.

Fr. Theisen and Fr. Gifford will also be collecting donations for the school. Their goal is to exceed Ron.  All staff members have been actively participating in this event, and you will see them on Saturday helping with numerous tasks. Our School Parents Association is there to help serve, and the community Knights of Columbus, who are continuous supporters of our school, will be there with lots of food and ready to greet each family coming to participate in the marathon.  A special thanks to all.

See you on Saturday. The details are below.

All School Reunion – Let’s fill the school

This is open to all who are connected to SWS in any way.

Register this week for October 7, our 145th-year All-School Reunion.  We are planning an evening of food, beverages, and entertainment.

Register for the event here.

Parents of Grades 2 and 3
We would like your children to sing at the reunion for all of the guests. They do such a lovely job, and we would like to showcase our school with our students.

Please, please, please – make this a priority for your child and our school. Saturday, October 7.

30 minutes MAX!
They will need to wear their best uniform to perform.

You and your kids are a part of the 145th-year legacy here at SWS. Be proud!

Mr. Gorr’s “voice studio students” are also asked to sing for the 4:30 Mass that day.

What happens on Marathon Day?

All students and their parents/families in grades Preschool to Grade 8 are highly encouraged to attend. (Bring a stroller if your kids are young)

We build school spirit on this day and you can become an invested part of the SWS family!

They will get a race card on their back for tallying the laps.

Lunch Account for the school staff members

School parents have asked how they can buy a few lunch tickets for the teachers. Here is a link to donate. You can also send a donation to the school office. The goal would be to have $20,000 in the account so that any teacher could get a free lunch at any point in the year, but we will accept any amount. Teachers can get one lunch per week or one per month. Whatever is given will go straight back into the staff lunch account.

Normally (according to the National Lunch Program rules), any adult lunch is $5, and any adult breakfast is $2.25.

Social Emotional Learning  (SEL) activities.

SWS has invested in a curriculum to meet the learning needs of our students. This is a highly interactive program with a professional instructor available to us all year online. Teachers can monitor the mental health of their students through a simple ” daily/weekly question”. They can then choose activities and lessons that address any problems that their students are having at school or even some that are out of school, if appropriate.   We are excited to bring in the program for all K-8 grades. Last year, we tried it out for our students in grades 5-8, and the levelsstaff found it extremely helpful in guiding students on their social-emotional skill level.

NWEA Testing K-8

This week, we finish our testing on Wednesday for our students in grades 3-8 in the area of language and for any students who missed a test last week.

Parents will get their child’s results at the fall conferences on November 2 or 3.
