Saint Wenceslaus Catholic School Office Update

From the Office of the Principal:

Dear Parents, Grandparents, and Friends of SWS;

Looking up the word advent in multiple dictionary sites, I came across many words used to describe what is meant by advent.  Next week, we will begin the Advent season. This is the season that comes right before the Christmas season. Similar activities and preparations sometimes cause us to lose track and recognize that each season has great spiritual opportunities.

Here is what I found for the word advent:
The arrival of a notable person, thing, or event.
From the Latin word “Adventus,” which means coming or arrival.
The arrival and appearance of something having great importance.

And a few more:
Arrival, appearance, coming, beginning, start, onset,  approach, incoming, inception, dawn, genesis, commencement, entrance, dawning, birth, debut, ingress, morning

May your Advent be filled with great anticipation and meaning for the season.

Kim Doyle, Principal

Psalm 86:11
Teach me your ways, O LORD, that I may live according to your truth! Grant me purity of heart so that I may honor you.

Pizza, Packet, and a Prize – for the PreK Students

If you have a Pre-kindergarten student, we will serve you dinner on Monday, November 27.

A staff member will show up to your home between 5:00-6:00 PM with a Pizza made by our kitchen staff.

You will also get a Packet with registration forms for the kindergarten class of fall 2024. We ask you to consider enrolling in our kindergarten program. Turn your forms in by December 6, and we will waive the registration fee for your kindergartener.

Your child will get a Prize!

Those unable to be home at that time should place a large cooler on your front steps and we will place your pizza in there.

Advent at SWS

Our building is now decorated for the Advent Season. We teach the children the meaning of waiting and anticipating the birth of Christ.

We have numerous activities that take place in the school during these weeks.  Each classroom hosts an Advent wreath where teachers and students can gather each day in prayer. We will also have a weekly all-school prayer service in the gym.

Students in grades 3-8 will have a reconciliation/confession time on December 12.

We will also make a special ornament with our family group buddies and do a door decorating contest.

Living Nativity

Join us on the front yard as our parish presents the Living Nativity complete with live animals and a free hot dog dinner.

Santa Secret Shop

Our School Parent Association will be offering the Santa Secret Shop for the students in preschool to grade 8. This will occur on Thursday, Dec. 7, and Friday, Dec. 8.

The shop is a place for kids to get gifts for family. They get to pick it out, and the volunteers will wrap and tag the gifts so they are ready to be placed under your Christmas tree.

Preschool parents, please send $10 in an envelope on Dec. 7 or 8. Your child will get to choose two gifts – one for mom and one for dad ( or you can let us know if you would like the gift for a different special person)

K-8 students who want to participate should have money in an envelope. Mark on the envelope who to shop for and how much to spend.
For example: Mom $5, Dad $5, Brother $3. Gramma $3, and so on…..

Basketball Referees are needed.

Male or female – if you know basketball, we need you. Our boys team of grades 4-7 will have 6-8 home games beginning on 12/5. All games start at 4:00 or 4:30 PM.

We need a ref to play. Open to high school or college students, parents, grandparents, or any relative/neighbor. You do not need to be a professional. Our games are simple and are learning experiences for our players.

Those parents with younger students at SWS – please consider!
