Saint Wenceslaus Catholic School Office Update

From the Office of the Principal:

Dear Parents, Grandparents, and Friends of SWS:

Happy 145th year for St. Wenceslaus Catholic School. This week we will celebrate with a party in the school on Saturday. We have past students, parents of students, grandparents of past students, and others who will come to the school to walk the halls once again. All of our current school staff and many of our past staff members will gather. Our current students will entertain. Any and all of our supporters are invited to join us.  145 years is a lot to celebrate.

Our school began many years ago when the settlers of New Prague came together to build the church and then agreed that there should be a place for their children to go to school. The original school was held in the home of the first settler of New Prague, a German pioneer by the name of Anton Philipp. Many settlers of the Czech heritage shortly joined them. All of the founders were Catholic and wanted God to be the focus of their lives and to have faith as central to the education of their children. This long-standing principle is still carried through to our school today. Our mission as a Catholic school continues to be Christ-centered and faith-driven while also offering a solid academic structure.  SWS has had 145 years of success with many accomplishments among our graduates and the school community at large that relate directly back to our school being there for the children of the day. This is truly remarkable.

Thanks to everyone, past and present, for your faith, trust, and dedication to our school.

Kim Doyle, Principal

Psalm 86:11
Teach me your ways, O LORD, that I may live according to your truth! Grant me purity of heart so that I may honor you.

Marathon Thank you

We know how much effort all of you put into gathering donations for the school on behalf of your child.   Thank you so very much for completing this fundraiser with huge success.

We made our $55,000 goal with the school families. Our priests collected an additional $3000, and Mr. Ron McBroom will be finalizing his collection of over $11,000.
All of these funds are directly used in our budget for 23-24 operating costs.

Thank you to our school staff who have helped with collections and on the Saturday marathon activities.

Thank you to our School Parent Association for providing water, coffee, donuts, and popcorn and for helping with the event.

Thank you to the Knight of Columbus for supporting our school and for providing our hot dog meal on Saturday.

Thank you to all parents and grandparents who donated, came to the event, ran with the children, and cheered them on along the route.

Everyone should feel proud of this successful event.

(Remember that we have a total of 4 required fundraisers: marathon, fish fry, sweepstakes, and pot-o-gold)

School Parent Association – Seeking more members

We welcome more school parents to join us for the monthly meetings and to help support the activities of the school.  This group provides support for the staff and students to make our school a place where all enjoy.

The next meeting is at 6:30 on October 10 in the staff room. All are welcome.

Handmade Market

We have 60 vendors ready to display and sell their handcrafted items at our school’s annual Handmade Market on October 28. This event is directed by our School Parent Association, a group of our school parents who work to make our school a better, happier place for students and staff.

Spread the word!  This is a fun day for groups of gals to shop here together. We also serve breakfast treats and lunch for a fee.
