Saint Wenceslaus Catholic School Office Update

From the Office of the Principal:

Dear Parents, Grandparents, and Friends of SWS;

We are now on the fast track to the end of the school year.  Wow!  It is alway incredible how quickly the school year flies by. There is so much to teach and so many things to do and the time runs out just when we are on a roll.  It has been an incredible year for all at SWS! So much learning has taken place. Students have been engaged, alert, attentive, and responsive this year. We will finish out our year strong.

One project that we are working on is our accreditation renewal. This is a two year process of looking at all areas of the school life, evaluating them, and looking at deeper to set goals for the future. You will be hearing more about this as time moves into the fall and throughout the next school year.  It is an excellent process to continue growing, changing, and staying on top of the important issues of our school community. This process will bring validation to the good things happening within our school and will bring challenges that we need to tackle.  In this news, you will see goals from the current year. Each year we put these in front of us to help focus our direction and be purposeful and intentional in what we want to accomplish.

God’s plan for His people is incredible.  We are Gods people at SWS!

Kim Doyle
Principal

Congratulations – First Communion Students
First Communion at St. Wenceslaus took place over the weekend. Students can now fully join in the celebration of the Mass. The 2nd graders will be in charge of Mass this week and will wear their special clothing from First Communion or some other special outfit for those who are not Catholic or have not yet received.

How short should shorts, skorts, and skirts be?
Now that the warmer days are here we are seeing more bare legs on both boys and girls.

Shorts should have a 6 inch inseam or longer.
Skorts and skirts need to fall slightly above the knee by one to two inches.
Please go through your child’s clothing and make sure it is school appropriate.

On non-uniform days – all of these same length rules apply as well.

Leggings are discouraged this year unless under a skirt/skorts but this does NOT mean the skirt/skort can be shorter due to wearing the leggings underneath.

Leggings should NOT be worn alone.

Parent Coffee Gathering
All parents are invited to come to Mass on May 17 and join other parents for coffee in the church basement after Mass. The School Advisory Council is hosting this event for parents. (you can bring little ones if you have them)

This is the school field day, so the school-aged kids will not be joining in the coffee time but will be heading to school to get ready for field day.  Parents are welcome to stay for that activity on the playground.

Kids Heart Challenge has officially kicked off, and we hope you will join us as we work to “Be the Torch” in the fight against heart disease and stroke. We will guide the way to heart health by funding research and engaging kids so they grow into young adults with healthy habits that will last a lifetime.

You can get started now by registering your student at: http://www2.heart.org/goto/StWenceslaus and beginning Finn’s Mission! The goal of Finn’s Mission is to help kids with special hearts and teach 1.8 million families around the country to learn the lifesaving skill of Hands-Only CPR. Why 1.8 million? Because Finn has had 18 procedures.

In addition, our class is participating in a competition to have the most students register and complete Finn’s Mission. If 50% of our students take the challenge and at least three students complete Finn’s Mission, we will be earning two Amazon gift cards for our classroom.

For the Love of Family

This week’s challenge:

During May, the month of Mary, honor the Blessed Mother with something special. Read a book about Mary with your kids, plant a Mary garden, pray a Hail Mary every day, or take on the challenge of praying a Rosary together.

Join the Green Team this summer

Help keep our campus beautiful through the summer.
Water plants and pull a few weeds.
This is a great job for a family to do together or for the students to earn their service hours.
