St. Wenceslaus
VOLUNTEER REQUIREMENTS
Volunteers are the heart of St. Wenceslaus School. The presence and commitment of our volunteers is a powerful witness and model of Christian service for our children. Volunteer support is essential to help us live out our mission statement. All parents, grandparents, and school friends are invited to become more actively involved in the life of our school by sharing their time and talent through volunteering.
In compliance with the Archdiocese of St Paul and Minneapolis’ requirements, all volunteers who have contact with students are required to attend mandatory Virtus training and submit to a criminal background check application. NO exceptions can be made to this rule.
Create an account at virtus.org.
Follow the Instructions for the “Essential 3”
Sign up and complete a Virtus training session
This is an online traiing video.
There will be several additional movies online and complete the post-movie questions
Be sure to watch the entire video, answer the questions, and sign the form after each movie or training session. (Or it will not register and count)
Submit your background check (through Virtus)
You will be asked to put in your social security number and allow the McDowell Agency to do a background check on you.
Sign the code of conduct for adult volunteers
Submit your completion form to the school
Be sure to update your Virtus information every year. Please make sure that you do not have a “yellow highlighted area” on the left side of the screen. If you do, please follow the instructions on the link. If nothing is highlighted — then your information is correctly submitted each year. The principal is the school environment safety coordinator and will notify you if you are not cleared to volunteer. Teachers may question your account if you sign up for a volunteer opportunity. If this happens, please have the principal check your account for approval.
Virtus accounts need to be frequently updated. This process is on-going and not a one-time approval process.
Volunteer Drivers: Occasionally there is a need to transport students by car for a short distance. All drivers must complete the “Essential 3”, be cleared by the principal to volunteer, and submit a driver liability form and proof of insurance coverage.
